"Steeplechase" In Progress

Hi! I'm working on a new stone for lithography! It's a rather large, creme colored stone. I actually haven't measured the dimensions yet.

oooooooo....

aaaaaaaaaah....

It took me 16 hours to grain down. Lots and lots of work! But it's so worth it. A grained stone is so luscious to work with. It's so exciting!

This is the little press I have to myself this semester.
Although, I was informed that it is broken.
So I get to use a different one!

So! Here's what I'm doing with it!

Stay tuned for more! I'm titling this work "Steeplechase", we'll see how it turns out!

Lithographs

Lithography: (n.) The art or process of putting designs or writing, with a greasy material, on stone, and of producing printed impressions therefrom. The process depends, in the main, upon the antipathy between grease and water, which prevents a printing ink containing oil from adhering to wetted parts of the stone not covered by the design.

A couple of months ago, I posted about some 'in-progress' lithography along with pictures of drawings on some stones. I also mentioned that I was studying under my aunt, Caroline Thorington. She is a wonderful artist who has been a professional lithographer for many years. I am absolutely grateful that she let me invade her studio and learn about some of her techniques. These are two of four prints that I pulled that week. Yes, I say 'week'... I was only there seven days.  It was amazing, relaxed, and fast-paced. An experience I will never, ever forget. I learned more about being an artist from her than from any classes that I've taken at college.

These are some of her prints:

Shanti - Caroline Thorington
(Lithograph, 27 x 21, 2004)

Mechi - Caroline Thorington
(Lithograph, 26 x 20,  1997)

Two Cebus - Caroline Thorington
(Lithograph, 15 x 21, 2004)

Bottom's Dream - Caroline Thorington
(Lithograph, 22 x 31, 1995)

Carnival of the Quarter Moon - Caroline Thorington
(Lithograph, 15 x 21, 1998)

Be sure to check back for more updates! I have a whole lithography studio to myself this semester, so I will be pulling lots of prints!

Studies

Doing some sketches today. Thought I'd post a few up here. Working on anatomy issues and things. OMG, yes... I am wearing argyle pajamas! They're super comfy. And tremendously ugly. I love them. Cheers!

More In Progress Lithography

Some more in progress lithography. I have the opportunity to study under my Aunt Carey, who is a professional artist. She's gracious enough to let me prowl around in her studio and use her stones. I'm honored and incredibly excited. This is the one I've been working on today. I'm printing it tomorrow.

The General's Mistress

I'm taking a photography class this semester. So, for my final project I photographed my mare and her newborn foal. We've decided to name the filly "The General's Mistress". My dad is a general in the military and she's his, so I thought the name fit. I'm trying to capture her portrait with 12-16 pictures. So far, these are the five that I have!  Enjoy!

I absolutely adore this little girl. She's friendly, tame, and loves scratches behind her ears! I'll be sure to update the final project when it's done. Thanks for viewing!

Oodles of Doodles!

Some doodles that I've done in the past. There are lots of "I Spy" things in these. I think my favorite one is Zombies.
